This updated edition incorporates all the features that made its parent work, The Kodansha Kanji Dictionary, so popular, including core meanings, detailed character meanings, stroke-order diagrams, cross-references to homophones, numerous compounds and examples, and a speedy indexing system, but includes several enhancements. Chief among them is the addition of hundreds of kanji headwords to reflect recent revisions to the Jōyō and Jinmei Kanji lists, or the sets of characters prescribed by the Japanese government for use in writing and in personal names. In all, 3,002 kanji -- 772 more than in the first edition -- fill its pages, making it the most comprehensive and up-to-date dictionary of its kind.
