KDPS Kanji Dictionaries

NEWS FLASH

Since Kodansha International announced the publication of Jack Halpern's The Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary (KALD) in February 1999, it has been reprinted 10 times in three editions. Sales of the KDPS series of Kanji Learner's Dictionaries have reached nearly 100,000 copies. In March 2007 Casio finally announced the release of the long-awaited Electronic Dictionary edition of KALD (more info). These dictionaries are widely-used, popular reference works for learning Japanese throughout the world. Because KALD is a highly effective learning aid, some universities even require every student and every teacher to use it.

KALD is based on the world-renowned NTC/ Kenkyusha New Japanese-English Character Dictionary (NJECD), which has become a standard reference work and has enjoyed the praise of world-renowned scholars and countless learners of Japanese worldwide. Beautiful, portable, and a joy to use, this dictionary was created with passion and no compromises of its high quality. Every learner of Japanese will want to have one by his or her side.

We have recently launched a new project to create a similar dictionary for Chinese hanzi. Because of the excellent reputation of KALD and with the number of Chinese learners in the world exceeding 30,000,000, we expect this to become a very popular dictionary.

" Long-awaited ... this dictionary fully meets the
practical needs of beginning and intermediate students."

--Osamu Mizutani, President, Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language

"Simply put, this dictionary comes as close to being 'beautiful' as any dictionary can. Once you've located the kanji of interest, the clean design makes it easy to find the information you need, and different sets of meanings are broken out very nicely."
